Shane Murdock is the next special guest for WOW.TODAY, Sunday 14 April.
Shane has been a professional pilot since 1980 and has logged in excess of 22,000 flying hours, approximately 15,000 of those hours as Captain on Airline aircraft. He has held commands on several airline aircraft including the Airbus A330, Boeing 737and many more.
He has a diploma of aviation (university of South Australia), a masters degree in Human Factors (Swinburne university). He has a certificate in human factors in aviation investigation (ATSB), and a certificate in air accident investigation (University of Southern California). In addition he has a certificate in airline training and checking (Murdoch university).
He became interested in Human Factors in its inception in the late 80’s when it was called CRM (cockpit resource management). This interest led him to the human factors training manager role at Kendal airlines which he held for 5years,
He was also a training Captain on the SAAB 340 at this time.
He is a member of the Aviation Psychology association and the International Air Safety Investigators association.
He is the Father of two children, Sarah and Tom.
Shane is currently leading a court case for 50 ex airline staff who were mandated out of their jobs. In addition he wrote a position paper regarding a looming disaster in aviation with pilot incapacitations which has gone viral globally. His passion is wildlife and nature being qualified and registered as an African safari trails guide and tracker and forest therapy guide. His dream is to start an initiative that reconnects people with the natural world either here in Australia or in Africa.
